Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC)

Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) is a nationwide charity that runs chess lessons and clubs in over 400 schools across the country. Children are taught by one of our trained tutors, progressing from the rules of the game to foundational tactics and strategy over a full academic year. Children acquire a life-long skill, opening up an affordable and enjoyable game of limitless depth. They also gain well-documented educational and social benefits through learning the game. Schools receive chess sets, teaching and learning resources and entry to school activity days at the London Chess Classic and ChessFest.

At Festival of the Girl, CSC tutors will be offering chess lessons aimed at complete beginners. We teach chess through a series of mini-games, one for each piece. Each mini-game can be learned in a few minutes, and gradually mastered through practice over the chess board. Once you’ve completed all the mini-games, you’ll be ready to play a full game of chess.
